Both Azerbaijani boxers in action on the opening day of the European Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, secured victories. The tournament brings together 406 athletes from 43 countries across the men’s and women’s competitions.
Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) began his campaign against Miloš Poganović of Montenegro. After winning all three rounds, he secured a 4–1 split-decision victory, with the judges scoring the bout 29–28, 30–27, 28–29, 30–27 and 30–27. He will face Croatia’s Fabian Tomkić in the round of 16 on September 19.
Seyid Seyidov (85 kg) also won his round-of-32 bout, defeating Belgium’s Idris Leganes by a 4–1 split decision. The judges’ scores were 29–28, 27–30, 29–28, 30–27 and 29–28. He will next face Spain’s Adrian Ricardo, who received a first-round bye, in the round of 16 on September 18.
The European Championships will conclude on September 25, when the champions will be crowned.
