HİSTORİC ACHİEVEMENT FOR AZERBAİJAN: TWO RECORDS AND SECOND PLACE İN THE MEN’S TEAM STANDİNGS AT THE EUROPEAN CHAMPİONSHİPS

The European Boxing Championships have concluded in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Azerbaijan’s men’s team finished second in the team standings, setting national records for both the total number of medals and the number of gold medals won.

Led by head coach Ravshan Khodjayev, the team achieved this historic result with two gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Russia topped the standings with five gold and two silver medals, while Ukraine finished third with one gold, one silver and one bronze. Azerbaijani boxers inflicted both of Russia’s defeats in the men’s finals.

Azerbaijan also placed third in the combined men’s and women’s team standings and received a special trophy. Russia ranked first with seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals, followed by Türkiye with four gold, one silver and five bronze.

Azerbaijan’s newly crowned European champion Saidjamshid Jafarov was named the tournament’s best boxer.

The championships brought together 406 athletes from 43 countries. Azerbaijan’s Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) and Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) won gold, Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) claimed silver, while Amin Mammadzade (55 kg) and Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) secured bronze.
